To be quite frank, I think that Ikea Hacks were my first foray into my DIY home decor obsessions. So let’s kick it back to the beginning for this blog post.
I went to Ikea the other weekend and on my way out I spotted these $4 SIGNE rugs that came in a variety of colors. I snatched one of the plain ones with a plan to paint it. Since then I’ve come across so many more ideas for these inexpensive Ikea rug hacks…so stay tuned!
For today’s tutorial I am just keeping it simple and painting this rug with bold colors.
Materials Needed:
- SIGNE Rug
- Blue Tape
- Tape Measure
- Paint Brushes
- Acrylic Pain
- Fabric Medium (I didn’t use this but apparently you are supposed to…oops)
Step 1: Decide on Your Design
I wanted to use a geometric design so I decided to go with triangles!
Step 2: Outline Your Design with Blue Tape
I used the tape measure to find the middles of each section that is broken apart by a thicker weave. I taped off 2 triangles on each end of the rug
Step 3: Paint
Paint inside the blue tape with a thick coat.
Step 4: Reveal
Peel off the blue tape immediately after painting. It is so satisfying to pull off that tape to a super clean line! Admire your work and let it dry!
